Our Voices Matter

By Jennifer Borba von Stauffenberg

Watching what was arguably the best Grammy night in 10 years, I had so many thoughts racing through my mind. Music has always been and will always be a platform for unifying the world and sharing powerful messages. Seeing Cyndi Lauper stand at Kesha’s side among all of those powerful women was a huge statement. I didn’t even breathe throughout the entire performance. I cried. I felt empowered.

Witnessing the powerful lyrics and placement of U2’s remote performance reminded me of our strength. Holding my heart as I watched Logic perform, I was reminded that it is up to us to make a difference.

Your voice matters. My voice matters. Our voices matter.

Musicians often use their voices literally. They write meaningful lyrics, lay them onto beautiful melodies and spread messages around the globe. What is your message? What do you have to say?

When I was six years old, my Dad took me to see Cyndi Lauper perform. It was my first concert. I saw how captivated the audience was and I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life helping people like her reach the world with their messages of hope, solidarity and passion. Tonight, thirty-two years later, I witnessed it again and I felt the same passion course through my veins.

We must all find the courage to use our voice to educate, inspire and spread hope.
