There’s a reason only select brands have been able to continuously make a splash on social media – they’re using it for exactly what it was made for, relationships. As the space for social influencers continues to grow, and mobile apps like “Bumble BFF” get more and more popular, it’s become apparent that making friends online isn’t all that different from the real world, and has the potential to reinvent your business’ social presence. At Olive, we think it’s time brands put the social back into social media, and here’s how to do it:
Be yourself: When it comes to making friends, this may be the oldest rule in the book. But it’s one that is so easily overlooked on social media, especially by brands. However, authenticity is key to building relationships with your followers and consumers. As bloggers and other social influencers continue to prove every day, the more you stay true to yourself, the more powerful your message will resonate.
Offer value: If you’re using your social channels to sell, sell, sell, you probably won’t get very far. Don’t get me wrong, conversions are one of the many great perks of a strong social presence, but that shouldn’t be the main focus. Instead, use the platform to educate and engage with your audience, creating a community in which their voices will be heard and their questions answered.
Appreciate reciprocity: As with any friendship, it takes two to tango! If you want people engaging on your social channels, you’ve got to put in some work, too. And we’re talking more than a simple ‘like’ here and there, but rather taking the time to reply to their posts and comments with personalized responses that show you really care. In the age of spammy social bots, users appreciate authentic responses now more than ever.
At Olive, we love making new friends – on social or in person! If you’re looking to team up with us and get social, shoot us an email at info@olivecreativestrategies.com, or follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
